📮 End of an Era: India Post - Registered Post Discontinued

Updated: Aug 8

India Post has announced it will discontinue its iconic Registered Post service as a standalone option from September 1, 2025, merging it into Speed Post. This change, outlined in an official circular, comes after decades of Registered Post being India’s trusted way to send legal notices, court documents, educational certificates, and official letters with proof of delivery. The move aims to modernise postal operations, reduce redundancy, and leverage Speed Post’s faster, trackable delivery network.

While the registered feature will still be available as an add-on under Speed Post, it comes at a slightly higher cost, thus raising concerns for small traders, rural customers, and pensioners who relied on its affordability. On the positive side, customers will now benefit from faster delivery times, online tracking, and digital acknowledgements, ensuring both speed and security in one unified service.

So, to answer India Post - Registered Post Discontinued - for real?

No! But yes, it's available under speed post.

For over 50 years, Registered Post has been more than just a postal service; it’s been a symbol of reliability and legal authenticity in India’s communication system. As we say goodbye to the standalone service, businesses, legal professionals, and individuals must adapt to the new format. Completing any Registered Post mailings before August 31, 2025, and updating standard procedures for legal or government communication is strongly advised.

I guess we should start sending registered post to show that the demand still exists. :)
