🚚 India’s 100 km per day Highway Dream. A Big Boost for Logistics?

The government is shifting gears to transform India’s road network, aiming to accelerate highway construction to 100 kilometres per day, up from the current 38 km per day. Backed by an annual project award target of ₹10 lakh crore, this move could be a game changer for the logistics sector.

Why the 100 km per day Highway Dream Matters for the Logistics Industry?

  • Faster Deliveries: Quicker, more reliable transit routes reduce turnaround times.

  • Lower Costs: New expressways like the Nagpur to Vijayawada corridor will cut fuel use and open direct access to eastern ports.

  • Wider Reach: Rural and remote markets become more accessible for supply chains.

  • Bigger Hub Potential: Regions like Vidarbha could emerge as logistics powerhouses.

The Roadblocks

Not everything is perfect on the smooth stretches of the 100 km per day Highway Dream. Around 580 projects worth ₹3.9 lakh crore face delays due to land issues, approvals, and contractor challenges. Another 200 projects worth ₹1.6 lakh crore are stuck at the bidding stage. For logistics players, this means the benefits will roll in gradually, and hence, execution speed is the key.
